When I worked in a hospital neonatal nursery at 16, I was sure I would be a nurse! After taking care of my mother-in-law for 2 years, my parents for 5 years, & a daughter having breast cancer till she died 4 yrs later, I saw how much it meant to them to be at home rather than institutionalized. I also loved to hear the stories these older ones had to tell! So I'm undecided which category I like best. But in my 2nd year of college, I observed a classroom at an elementary school & decided I would love to open doors of opportunity to young minds: So I prepared for teaching and did so for 11 yrs. It would be a joy for me to make life a little easier for parents who have to work. Perhaps I can be of help with homework (my specialty was reading improvement). When possible, I'd love to get children outside to play, if they have a safe environment. I'd like to tell you about some of the experiences I've had in taking care of those failing in health: dementia, being chronically cold, pneumonia, encouraging the exercise needed to walk again (which she did), feeding tube, breathing machine, Alzheimer's, Cdiff. I needed help with the Cdiff problem until I found that a fecal transplant will many times correct the problem. I found a doctor west of Mobile that would do that procedure for my 99 yr old mom. It made a BIG difference and I was able to care for her at home again! She died peacefully at 100 yrs plus 4 days! After those experiences, one of our three daughters was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. We took her to an alternative hospital in Tiajana. We moved close to her back in Tennessee staying in our RV for 4 yrs. I made nutritional drinks foere were unfinished issues we needed to stay in TN awhile longer, I took a caregiver job with Always Best Care (ABC) in Knoxville, TN from January of 2016 to May, when we moved back to Orange Beach.
Caregivers that work non-full-time jobs or irregular shifts can negotiate extra compensation in addition to their standard hourly wage.
