I am very caring and compassionate caregiver with 8 years experience. Seeing how a family member of mine was treated in facilities throughout my child hood is what drove me to become a caregiver. Many individuals who seek a caregiver usually just need someone just to be there and not only do things that they use to be able to do but for whatever reason can not and their family has priorities of tguer own and are unable to be there and having a great caregiver not only eases the family's mind but really makes the client have something to look forward to and someone to talk to as well.

What attracted me to being a caregiver was generally to help people and advocate for people. I was a caregiver to a quadriplegic professor when I was in college to help pay for my tuition. After college, I continued doing private care on the side for some Alzheimer patients at a nursing home. In 2004, I enrolled at a nursing school for a year and a half. I did not finish my degree, but I did receive my certification as a CNA and as a Medication Technician. I keep up to date with the newest discoveries and findings in the world of medicine. Even though I have not had any new medical training, I am current on my knowledge of diseases, medications and side effects of such medications. For instance, I am aware that when you care for an Alzheimer's patient, you step into his/her world, and not insist that he/she conforms to your expectations of what is real. I am compassionate and capable. All of the kids are either all grown or almost grown, but I still have this vast need to nurture. My husband refuses to be smothered, so, I need to go out of the house and find someone else who would appreciate being cared for :-) My kids are my biggest accomplishment. The eldest is going to medical school this summer, and the middle one is attending UMKC in August. The youngest one is doing great as a Sophomore while giving out just enough sass to maintain her teenage status.

Skills & Certifications: Orthopedic Care, Blood Disorders, Renal and Urological Disorders, Tracheotomy / Ventilation, Vision and Eye Disorders, Post Surgery Recovery, Stroke, Skin Disorders, Respiratory Disorders, Parkinson's Disease, Palliative Care, Multiple Sclerosis, Neurological Disorders, Hospice Care, Home Health Care, Hearing Disorders, Gastrointestinal Disorders, Diabetes, Depression, Dementia, COPD, Cardiovascular Disorders, Cancer Recovery, Arthritis, ALS, Alzheimer's Disease

What make me a caregiver is Patience. When you work with someone who needs home care it is important that you are patient and understanding. It helps to sometimes put myself in the other person's shoes and see what it might be like to ask people for help. Why did I become a caregiver? Is because I enjoyed taking care of elder family members and would like to help others in this way. I like doing work that has the potential to make a difference in someone's life. I like making someone smile and doing little things to make a person's day better. I love being a caregiver to help other people who really need it. I want to be able to care for them the way I want to be cared for if I should need the care some day. I love helping others in need. An achievement that I'm particularly proud of is how I developed my public speaking skills. I recognised that I needed to be more confident when speaking at team meetings so I could contribute to discussions of issues as well as put ideas clearly. I recognised I held fears about speaking up and if I was to deal with them I would have to commit to a program of personal development.
