Greetings: my name is Mary McCrimmon but everyone calls me Lil Mary. I have worked in health care mostly all my adult life. It gives me much gratitude to be able to care for elderly individuals. I cared for my grandmother,grandfather, brother, and most of all cared for my mother.I have compassion for people. I have always been a caregiver, taking care of my grandparents, my aunt before she was transferred to a nursing facility. My aunt had numerous health issues. I also took care of my husband, he had two major surgeries last year, he had to learn to walk again. During the process of caring for my husband, I realized that I enjoy helping people and I resigned from law enforcement and I am currently working as a caregiver part-time for Comfort Keepers of Florence SC since November of last year. I'm proud to say that I took good care of my husband and he is getting stronger every day, caregiving gives me the opportunity to give back to our seniors, I enjoy putting a smile on their faces. I'm an outgoing person that has the common sense to respect others. I believe on treating others the way you want to be treated. In some instances that hasn't always been reciprocated, but my professionalism, de-escalationabilities and problem solving skills have allowed me to always provide courteous professional service to others. Being a Caregiver is pretty much second nature to me. I have acted as a Caregiver since I was nine years old Assisting elderly grand parents. In high school I studied Allied Health Science and later became a Nursing Assistant. I loved it. Every day was a new challenge and completing each challenge was its own reward. Although I would have to say that. I thought it was awesome that a gentleman stopped me in the grocery store to tell me thank you for saving his life. He said continuing to do CPR until help arrived although everyone else walked away saved his life. All I could do was think about how bad felt knowing that guy died

I am a kind and caring person. I love providing care for anyone that can't care for themselves or just needing companionship. With my 5 years of being a caregiver I grow to love doing what I do. Knowing I'm helping someone that can put a smile on there face is why I love doing what I do. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is meeting new and interesting people.

I think patience and compassion are essential. This is a job that requires a lot of tolerance for challenging situations, and good communication and a positive attitude also go a long way.
