When she passed away, I realize that it was definitely something that I wanted to continue doing, although since I was young I used to take care of her every time she was hospitalized, and also for other members of the family. I enjoy being able to help others, to provide comfort, company, be useful to someone that needs support and some help on getting their meals prepared, their laundry done or beds change or even help while they are getting dress. Being capable to do that to others with the same love and dedication that I did it for my mother is something that makes me feel accomplished and proud of. I always think and be grateful that for my mother, there were a lot of people that gave her the best care. I want to continue doing that in her name for others.

I believe my most useful qualities in this role are patience and kindness. In my role as a caregiver in a group home for the elderly, I was frequently the only attending caregiver on my floor for evening shift. I had one gentleman who would always buzz me to attend to him, but because he was experiencing memory loss and dementia, when I arrived he would forget he just buzzed me for the same thing. I always showed him kindness and patience, and as a result, he requested me as his caregiver when he left the group home to live with a family member.
