I became a caregiver because I did not want to work in main stream Healthcare anymore. My passion is helping seniors the way they and their family's want to be cared for without Healthcare systems making the choices for their care. I worked as a physical therapy assistant for 27 years. The last 8 were in a rehabilitation department at a skilled nursing facility. I have enjoyed the last 9 years doing private home care as a caregiver. Helping individuals live their lives with dignity, safety and loving care.

My patience, my listening skills, and my care for the residents, I think makes me a great caregiver! I worked in a kitchen for 12 years at a nursing home and knew I could proved more for the residents then just serving meals and making them coffee, also I took care of my mother the last 6 months of her life and that alone made a huge change in my career path! I enjoy the conversations the residents have with me. I love hearing their life stories about their kids and grandkids! I enjoy waking up knowing that I'm going to make their day or they are going to make mine. I'm a proud mother of two young children!

I always enjoyed helping senior citizens out. I always try and put my best foot forward. During my shift i want to make my client feel extremely comfortable and satisfied with my work ethics. I am a healthy, active, strong 47 year old woman. I have worked in an assisged living facility, a hospital, and a rehab facility. I have also done a lot of private duty. My longest assignment was caring for a quadriplegic man. I have raised three daughters, so I understand children as well.

In 2017 I graduated from nursing school with the intention of helping people be stay healthy and feel their best. I've been a Certified Life & Wellness coach since 1996. After moving to Maine, I opened my private practice in Yarmouth. And started volunteering at ME Handicapped Skiing (now ME Adaptive Sports & Recreation), & with disabled veterans. For reasons beyond my personal control, I had to close my private practice. So I decided to use my skills serving others in a different capacity, this time focusing on the elderly population in Maine as well as Hospice service. I started as a caregiver with 3 different agencies in the Portland area. After 2 yrs, I 'down-sized' to two agencies in order to get certified as a CRMA. Quite often I am asked to start the service with a new client. Several times family members of a 24X7 client requested for me to be the primary caregiver and to coordinate the day to day client needs. In fact, it was commented that "when Maria is out, things really don't go well. As soon as she's back, everything flows so smoothly." My biggest personal achievement was to be selected "VNA's caregiver of the Year 2016". Ive becobecextended famiky to my elderly clients and hospice patients, as they have become to me. I'm honored & feel priviledged to serve my clients/patients at end of life as well as providing respite for family members and guiding them throughout the weeks/days before & after losing a loved one. My life's journey has taken me all over the world. I speak numerous languages, have lived on several continents, learned skiing at 47, ballroom dance competitor at 49, certified diver at 52., and now plan to get my private pilot's license by my 70th Birthday. Having supported my husband and only son during their cancer journeys, I learned that we cannot take anything for granted in life. We must find our own way of living life to the fullest each and every moment. I'm grateful for all the people who have touched my life. Each and every one has been a gift to me as I have been a gift to them. I hope to touch many more lives.

I am an 38 years old black African who's very dedicated, patient, compassionate, attentive, trustworthy person. I had many people in my own family who needed help and assistance. I grew up in an environment that make me to understand what they've been going through and he creates in me the passion and love to aid. Life it's to short and we need to make sure to be there when other needs us. l like making someone smile and doing little things to make a person's day better. You take pride in your attention to detail. You don't want a desk job; you like being physical in your job and using your body as well as your brain. There is many achievement in my life but the best one i believe it's putting a smile in my client face.

I have been in the care field for the past ten years. I have worked with many populations including folks with developmental disabilities, dementia, brain trauma, mood disorders and schizophrenia. I have worked with all ages except for children (professionally). Art is my main passion and I have made art since my childhood, but as far as job positions, I have always found care jobs. Care is natural for me, I strive to honor the people I care for and am able to build a rapport quite quickly. My biggest joy about caring for others is that I learn an immense amount about different perspectives, experiences in life and get to connect with people that are often cast aside in our youth and perfection obsessed culture. An achievement; when I can truly apply the depth of care and respect that I give to people I help, to myself, that feels like an achievement for where I am right now in life. Helping people become or remain as independent as possible no matter how small a task, is also quite a good feeling.
