Supporting Individuals With Development Disabilities To Have A Quality Life. Provides direct care to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Ensures client safety and maintaining a safe environment. Performs home management functions such as light housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and cleaning. Plans meals, shopping for groceries, preparing and serving food/meals, feeding and clean-up. Child Caregiver.

Empathy and compassion. Working with people in a home care setting, it is essential that a caregiver feel the desire to want to help. By showing both empathy and compassion caregivers will let the person they are caring for know that they care about the person and want to do what they can to help them. A good caregiver will be prepared to go with the flow, being flexible, so that they continue to provide good home care, even if a rigid schedule isn't being followed. Good home caregivers are those who naturally have an urge to help others. Often times they are people who have always placed a priority on helping other people. They want to make the world a better place and they do it with one home care patient at a time. Becoming a good home caregiver isn't something that will necessary happen immediately, but if the basic qualities are there, those people can develop their skills over time to become great!

I have been a CNA or caregiver for 13 years..I wanted to become a care giver because my mom was one and when I was little I used to be around clients of hers..that were so sweet and kind and that looked up to her...and it was sad they had no one to depend on..so I wanted to be that way for someone..be there for them when they have no one else to depend on..everybody needs someone..so I wanted to be that someone..I like helping people do things that they can't normally do or be that ear or shoulder when they need me

I became a Caregiver because as I was growing up, I witnessed a lot of elderly people not being cared for properly. I wanted to make a difference and provide the elderly with the care and support they needed. Being a Caregiver gives me joy. The thought of making someone else's life better, is the greatest feeling in the world. Most of the elderly are alone, without family and being able to provide direct care, love and support, is worth while. Its comforting to them, knowing that someone cares. I am mostly proud of rescuing a client from an abusive home. Many times Caregivers are scared to report abuse, neglect, etc. trying not to get involved but to know that I saved someone's life, is just why I signed up for this career!
