Hello, my name is Karen Palmer. I started doing in-home health care in 2010. I knew at an early age that working in the healthcare field was something that I wanted to do. I believe it is my calling from God. Therefore, I put my all into the care I provide for each individual. A few of my personality traits are caring, compassionate, understanding, loyal, and trustworthy. What attracted me to becoming a caregiver is both of my parents were CNAs, and as a child, they often took us to visit their job. I can remember sitting there watching the residents and feeling the need to help. I was born in Lansing MI, and at two I moved to Grand Rapids, I went to Eastern Elementary School and then to Creston High School. I took up Machine Shop and Architectural Drawing. I was the oldest of 12 children. After high school I took a Tool & Die Apprenticeship. I also worked as a volunteer for the fire department. I built a house in Sparta Township where I live with my wife. I retired from Tool Die 2010 because of cancer. Then I started volunteering at Rest Haven Homes which ended up in a paid position. I enjoy making some one happy and to do the things they enjoy and also to be a companion and a friend. I do transportation to doctor appointments, dentist appointments, shopping, movies, out to eat, visit a friend, errands, or travel, I also do in home care with dressing assistance, mobility, exercise, meal planning, and preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, etc. I have completed classes on Hospice Care, Dementia, and worked at Rest Haven Homes for 12 years, and 3 1/2 years with Leaves Personal Care.
