I have assisted clients with bathing and other personal care needs. I have also prepared meals and performed housekeeping duties on a regular basis. My experience includes Dementia care, along with other serious mental health issues. Several years ago, I attended a Practical Nursing program at a technical school in my hometown.
I have over 6 years of caregiving experience. I have worked in various places like Hospitals, Nursing homes and in home care. From 1999 to 2005 I was a Certified Nursing Assistant and went to a 2 year college to get my Associates degree in nursing, however due to hardships I did not finish and get my degree. I took a break from nursing for over 10 years to pursue a different career in retail Management. I just recently within the past year decided to get back into care giving/nursing.
I am an upbeat, hard working individual. Very attuned to the needs and emotions of others. Flexible and can easily adapt to a new environment or situation. Patience and kindness are things I make sure to express in my interactions with others. I hope to bring joy and laughter into the lives of those I touch. It does my souls good to care for those who struggle to care for themselves.
I have always been passionate about home health work because it allows seniors to stay in the home they spent their life building. I enjoy doing things out doors, I like to take my patients on walks (it able) around outside, or just to sit and the porch and soak up the sun. I have found in previous patients just that simple act is such a treat to the elderly who are home bound.
I consider myself a facilitator of healing and learning, which includes being a caregiver. Helping people to achieve their highest level of functioning is what healing is all about which usually includes the process of clients learning new skills. Having been a nurse for 39 years, I have worked at one time or another in almost every aspect of nursing and health care, including many different settings in hospitals, Long Term Care and in the community in group homes, general home health care and community mental health as well as Utilization Review and Education and training. What I have most enjoyed is being able to integrate some of the more holistic aspects of healing and health care into my everyday positions (eg. Nutrition, Stress Management & Relaxation, CranioSacral Therapy, Therapeutic Touch, Color & Sound therapy, etc.). One of the most successful cases I have worked on was a little 8 y.o. boy who had suffered a severe anoxic brain injury after being in a diabetic coma. When I met him, he was confined to a wheelchair, barely able to move more than a finger on his one hand, was fed through a G-tube, not able to walk or talk and required total care. It required intense dedication from his family, assisted in their home by nursing, PT, OT, Speech and many volunteers, but by the end of my time with him 2 years later through an integrated program utilizing many modalities, he was able to walk with a brace, his speech was much improved, he had started toileting himself and was able to eat by mouth again, GT removed. His vision was still not optimal, but had improved significantly and he was able to start attending school again. That was real healing which I was very proud to be a part of!! I can only hope to have opportunities like that again.
From the young age of 6, I have always showed a passion for caregiving. It all started when I would help my great grandmother with needs of getting in and out of bed, dressing/bathing and meals. Through high school I worked weekends and summers as a lifeguard for private parties. I went on to graduate high school with my CNA, first aid and CPR certifications. At 26, I have 10 years of experiences in many different atmospheres of nursing; ranging from nursing home care, home health, to working in a acute cancer care unit at a hospital. I consider myself a perfectionist and take my role as a certified nursing assistant very seriously. I pay attention to details and try to give each patient a unique and respectful experience while under my care and maintaining the patients dignity.
I have worked with several special needs clients, clients with ALS, clients in hospice care, and various other ailments. I love helping people and I believe it is very important to become friends with my clients and not treat them as a job. I am currently enrolled in college online so I can work very flexible hours. I am very dependable and ready to meet and help take care of your loved ones.
