The main reason I became a CNA to help my grandmother. Being raised by my grandmother, I want to do anything I could to help her as she has done for me until her passing. Since her death in 1977, I use my skills and experience helping other seniors. What I enjoy most about caring for seniors is knowing I have made a different in their lives. When I provide care to my clients, I'm providing care to myself, a very good friend, my grandmother, my mother, my grand father, because my clients are a part of my family. My greatest achievement in caring for my clients is when I can give them something that the doctor or medication cannot give and that's a sense that life doesn't have to be over. For example I have bought home clients from the hospital who was given two weeks to live, after caring for them they out live the two weeks by months and one lived almost a year longer than what the doctor had given. She was able to travel twice to her home state (from California to Ohio), driving herself to church, going out to lunch and dinner with friends. Those were the things she enjoyed doing before she became ill. Something about me, I received my C N A in high school (1976), I have three children two boys and one girl (decease). I also attended two colleges Long Beach City College in Long Beach, CA and Columbia MO online course. My major is Human Services. I'm currently working for a Home Care Agency who only take care of veterans.

My name is Onye but everyone calls me Red because nobody can usually pronounce it. I love helping people in need and mainly love caregiving because I'm able to help people who really need assistance and hopefully make them feel better and feel that they are not alone and that they mean something and people care about their wellbeing. I have a great amount of experience in being a caregiver I actually started very young. At the age of 8 I started being my mom's assistant caring for people and my first patient was my grandmother I cared for her for many years as she became more sick my responsibility grew I was responsible for bathing, cleaning, laundry, hygiene and more but the part I loved the most was the good talks that we had I was able to make her feel alright and happy and not alone until the day she passed. I would love to continue to do those things for people around the world if I am given the opportunity it makes me so happy and makes me feel like a good person. I love to smile and talk and laugh but most importantly uplift the people around me and hopefully I can continue to do that over the years

My initial interest in caregiving began when I started caring for my Grandmother who was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1986. I saw the difference it made in her life to have someone available and willing to help her with the things that most of us are able to do ourselves. We take for granted every day that we are healthy and able to perform these tasks. It is a blessing to have someone who is available to help us with these things when we need assistance or if we are unable to do them independently. I enrolled in the CNA program and graduated from it back in 1988. In my time as a caregiver, I feel that I have seen and helped with everything from the most basic needs to the most complex. There isn't much that scares me. I am able to assist with even the most challenging clients. I have thick skin and I am not easily offended. When I accepted the supervisory position with Visiting Angels back in 2011, not only was I able to supervise a crew of approximately 65 caregivers but I had the opportunity to occasionally assist with filling in for those caregivers in the event of an emergency. Over the last several years I've had some health issues of my own that I've had to take time off to work on and recover from. My husband has a neurological condition that has rendered him disabled so I am also his main caregiver. I miss the hands on care with others and the one on one relationships that are formed when caregiving. I am very interested in helping to supplement my income while making a difference in someone elses life. If you are interested in hiring a mature, stable, friendly and compassionate caregiver/companion for yourself or a loved one, please consider me.
