I consider myself a good listener, optimistic, patient, and sensitive to other people's feelings and emotions. I like taking care of others because it reminds me of the time I used to take care of my grandmother and spend time with her either during good times or bad times. Sometimes a simple smile can make a person feel more relaxed and willing to work with you as a caregiver to aid them with their inability of managing their own lives on their own. I was a pediatric ophthalmology specialist in Canada; when we were transferred to the USA, I began a food manufacturing company. A friend approached me in 2015 to ask if I would help with their mum who was near vegetative status due to progressing dementia and being alone. Four months later, this beautiful Lady was walking, singing, dancing, and cooking with me - one of the most self-gratifying endeavors of my life. Now living in the beautiful hill country, retirement is not satisfying - I do volunteer at the VA hospital just to see these heroes smile, laugh & have someone to listen to them... and of course plenty of hugs!
