I majored in Social Work and have had a wonderful 27 year career of working with children, adolescents and the aging. I have worked at UVA hospital where I gained insight into the importance of maintaining good health and how devastating a disease or accident is on one's health and life. I have worked for department of social services and assisted the aging with receiving the services needed to remain in their home or to move into a facility. At this time, I am doing "hands on" care in people's home to assist them with various activities of daily living. My mother was bedridden for many years and I was one of her primary caregivers. I know the burden on family when caring for a loved one and the importance of support. My grandfather lived to be 96 and I was there for him to assist with shopping, meal prep, housekeeping, medication reminders and transportation. I cherish the times that I spent with my mother and grandfather caring for them. I also cherish the support I received from others.

Caring for others has been a lifelong passion of mine! I'm happiest when helping others, so I find this field of work very rewarding in many ways. I grew up watching my mother learn and be a great nurse so she is definitely my inspiration. What I enjoy most is definitely just making a difference, being able to be there and insert patience and understanding in a situation of discomfort. Many don't understand how hard it can be to accept help when you have always helped others yourself, that's the role of a caregiver.

I began my journey into the Caregiver when my grandmother got sick and I knew it was my calling. I really enjoy being there for others always. I am very patient and very concerned in the happiness and comfortableness of my clients. I follow instructions well and I do like to do a daily journal of my clients day so the family knows all that has happened throughout my day with their loved one.

I've been a caregiver PCA for 16 years caring for the elderly in their homes helping with daily living activities. I have always loved caregiving since I was a little girl my church would have us go to nursing homes and spend some time with the residents. I enjoyed doing their hair and nails and singing with them and just spending time with them. Made me decide to be a caregiver. I enjoy helping others and being able to give them the opportunity to stay in their homes with their families while I come to them to care for them.

Things that makes me a great caregiver/nurse assistance is my positive personality and behavior to my clients. I love to sing, reading Bible, and learning new things. I am a singer and good listener. A heart of loving, caring, listening, compassion, and confident in my work make me an attracted person to be a caregiver. I am proud of having a heart of helping other in need of my aid. I am proud of having a gift singing, and caring for people. I once had to care for my grandmother who was blind and needed personal care. I have worked with residents in their homes and nursing homes. It is my pressure to make them happy and feel to live longer. I believe in caring because I am young, strong, and healthy to help seniors. I know my skills, talents, and traits make me a great caregiver.
