I took care of my blind sister in law and my aging mother in law and developed the desire to help people who used to do things for themselves but can no longer do it. It gives me satisfaction to see them live fulfilled lives despite needing help.

What a great caregiver means to me is to be able to show empathy and compassion toward the clients and families that I work with. By taking the time to fully understand my patient's needs and giving them the patience to work through their rehabilitation at their own pace, I show them that I care about them and that I want to do what I can to help them. I become a caregiver because I enjoy working with people. I love helping the individuals and their families to create the tailored care that is needed. I also enjoy working with the elderly in overcoming the difficulties associated with their health issues and helping them maintain their highest level of Activities Daily Living. The most satisfying part about being a caregiver is knowing that my clients and I foster a bond that makes me feel like a part of their family. In addition, the trust that my client's family put in me to ensure that their love ones are safe and taken care of is quite rewarding. I know how it helps the family feel at ease. One of my personally favorite achievements I'm proud of was helping one of my post-surgery clients at home with PT and OT; and enabling her to walk with a cane again instead of being restricted to a wheelchair.
