I first became a Caregiver at the age of 17. I took care of a 91 year old woman after school. It was an amazing experience. I learned to have compassion and patience at a very young age. I worked with her for 18 months. I enjoy the personal reward of helping a person in need and learning their life story. Everyone has a story. One personal achievement that I am proud of is taking care of a 35 year old man with Downs Syndrome. His Mom needed some respite care. He was very depressed and she could not get him out of bed to get dressed and eat. I was able to get him up and dressed cleaned up. Encouraged him to eat which he did very well. This took over 45 minutes but we did it. His Mom was so delighted! It was a success. I am a pretty easy going person. One fun fact about me...I was a foreign exchange student during High School. I went to Brazil. It was a great experience. Opened up my world.
