About Alison

My entire life has been about helping, even when I was a child (helped my mother raise my brother and sister). I've been told that I have a very reassuring and nurturing style of caring for others. From raising six children of my own to caring for my grandmother during the final stages of her life and caring for various other family members, as well as other positions held in the medical field, I feel my skill set is a good match for a wide variety of caregiver situations. Being a caregiver is a deeply satisfying experience for me, and I feel strongly that it is my life path.

Dec 2011 - Dec 2012
Carla Clark
Carla is my sister. She had back surgery in 2011, and I was able to come to assist her with housekeeping as well as some personal care for a period of just under 4 months.

Caregiver

Dec 1998 - Dec 2011
Yvonne Muller
Yvonne was my grandmother. I knew her as "Meme". I started caring for her in 1998 after my grandfather passed (he had pancreatic cancer). At first, Meme only needed light assistance. She lived independently in her own apartment, but she needed assistance with light housekeeping, grocery shopping, bill paying, and medication management. As her needs increased, eventually, she required part-time live-in assistance. At that time, she lived with my children and I while I worked at a physician's office as a medical assistant. When her care needs became 24/7, I adjusted my employment so that I could provide that care. I cared for her 24/7 for a total of 5 years. I was so happy to be able to provide her care so that she could remain in a home environment, and I'm excited about helping other families achieve this with their own loved ones as well. (My grandmother was 93 when she passed)

Receptionist/Office Assistant

Dec 2011 - Dec 2011
Lower Columbia Home Health and Hospice
I had the privilege of helping this office during a staff reorganization as a temp. employee. While I did not provide direct patient care during this time, I was trained to (and became familiar with) family needs during situations where extra help in the home was appropriate. Often, the calls I answered were from stressed family members, and I was able to provide calm and reassuring assistance while determining their initial needs.

Companion

Dec 1997 - Dec 1997
Clackamas County Senior and Disabled Services
I was able to provide care through the county's Senior and Disabled services to a neighbor of mine. She needed evening meal preparation as well as someone to "keep her company" until bedtime. We played different card games, and watched Jeopardy together. I stayed until bedtime, assisting her with dressing for bed, using her nebulizer nightly, and "tucking her in".

I like working with people who need assistance. One of my patients just needed some extra attention while living in a LTC facility, and I was able to help her to get better and go home. That was such a joyous occasion! She was not very old, and working with her was very easy. I have been caring for people since I was 12 yrs old. One lady was a friend of my great grandma who was paralyzed. She had some pics of her standing up between two of her friends. She was a tall lady. She always wanted me to care for her cats. I cared for a neighbor near my parents house. She only had one arm and needed help opening cans, sweeping, cooking and laundry in an old fashioned ringer washer.I have worked in WA and in CA as a CNA and had an EMT license to supplement my skills. I have also worked for a hospice company in CA. I cared for patients in their homes that had Alzheimers, Cancer, AIDS, and more. One patient I cared for in my home in a w/c who had Downs syndrome and Celiacs disease and no teeth. He had to see a nutritionist to find the proper diet which was mostly rice and meat.
