About Elisabeth

Caregiving is a second career for me and one I have returned to after my 18 year career with Home Depot as an assistant manager. My license and certifications are listed below and I have been actively caregiving again since January 2016. Being a great caregiver has been very rewarding for me and is one of the most important things I do. My first job as a caregiver was many years ago when I was still in highschool and college. I can still remember with fondness the names and stories of many I cared for. I remember because I truly enjoyed getting to know them and they all touched my heart in so many special ways. I am compassionate and empathetic by nature. I have a special interest in memory care and feel providing a secure and loving environment where clients can feel safe, loved and have the ability to thrive and remain as active as possible is of the most importance. I have experience with dementia/Alzheimer's, chronic illness, medication assistance, medication detox, gait disturbances, recovery from surgery and rebuilding strength and abilities afterward. I strive to understand the specific needs of each client and support them emotionally and physically to achieve their full potential. I am reliable, patient and conscientious. I like to cook and prepare healthy "tasty" meals and I like to care for pets too! I have been around animals my entire life and truly enjoy helping clients care for their pets. I feel it is important for us all to stay connected to friends and family and stay as physically active as possible doing the activities we enjoy. I try to incorporate some type of daily exercise for each client whether it be walking outside when weather permits, the gym or simple stretching and strengthening for those who are disabled.Licensed Nursing Assistant and Certified Assisted Living Caregiver. CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certification. Article 9, Food Handler Certification and Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.

My client was diagnosed with terminal cancer and had been heavily medicated for over a decade. During my employment, it was discovered that she had been misdiagnosed and her cancer was in remission. My care included helping her through a very difficult detox which required additional constant medical supervision. As a result of the medications, she had become incontinent and was non ambulatory due to severe muscular atrophy in both lower limbs. I provided encouragement and assistance as she learned to walk again, emotional support, companionship, and help in reconnecting with friends and society as a whole. I prepared all of the meals and snacks, general house cleaning and yard work, shopping, and assisted with bathing, dressing, transfers and ambulation. I cared for her after a major surgery and stayed overnight in the hospital with her until discharged and then continued care at home. I accompanied her to every doctor appointment and relayed the appropriate information to the doctors and to her family when she was unable to do so. I also had the pleasure of walking and caring for her 2 adorable little puppies. The most important and rewarding part of my job was supporting her and encouraging her to have the confidence and desire to do things for herself. This took a lot of effort on her part and willingness to work hard. I am very happy to say she is no longer in need of care and doing very well. Reference available from family.

My client was in the later stages of Alzheimer's and needed constant supervision. My care included dressing, grooming and changing in the am. He would like to help with housekeeping chores like making the bed some mornings. Monitoring blood pressure daily. I prepared breakfast and lunch. During meals he needed reminders and sometimes needed to be fed. He very much enjoyed the outdoors so we took walks everyday. Simple range of motion exercises and light massage on lower legs, shoulders, arms and hands. I encouraged games and activities such as looking at family photos or pictures of animals, play doh and tinker toys . I accompanied him and his wife to several of his doctors appointments to help with transfers and walking and sometimes going out for lunch. When he later had to be moved into a facility, I continued to visit and help with mealtimes, changing and dressing, and going for walks. I continued support for my client and the family until his passing.
