About Olukemi

Before immigrating to the United States, I used to live in Nigeria where I had the opportunity to spend time with my grandparents as well as my nephews and nieces. Taking care of elderly patients just like the way I helped my grandparents' with their grooming, feeding, and assisting with choices is fulfilling. These are natural traits that I have cultivated and helped me in taking great care of my grandparents. It is these abilities that I have been applying to my daily life as a caregiver. As earlier mentioned, I am enthusiastic about helping the elderly because due to their age, they may neglect their basic needs. The elderly often forget to take their medications and how to independently care for themselves such as bathing , cooking, and house cleaning, etc. Also, as a caregiver, my understanding of human nature has broadened my empathy of the immense diversity of people such as the way they behave, and speak which is one of the requirements I need in the pursuit of my career goal as a pharmacist. Being a caregiver has encouraged me and improved my skills. I do not think I could have acquired those in school. My interpersonal relationships has greatly improved my emotional intelligence in dealing with different people and personalities. I am proud of myself in any ways because as I was on my career journey, I realized that I have a lot of choices, but I promised myself to do what makes me happy. I have accomplished things I could not have imagined from dealing with patients afflicted with Dementia to Behavioral patients. I am very proud of being a caregiver and this will always reflect in my future career as a pharmacist while dispensing innovative and therapeutic drugs. It has also given me an insight towards my specialization as a pharmacist as I am looking forward to being a community or clinical pharmacist.

Four years ago I retired from nursing. Recently, I moved to Phoenix Arizona to be near family. I have one married daughter in Phoenix where I presently reside, and another married daughter in Peoria. My daughter and son-in-law in Peoria have one daughter and are currently expecting their second child. Prior to moving here, my most recent pertinent work experience was as a homecare non-medical provider to an senior woman in her Kansas home. Though hired as "non-medical care provider" much of my assistance with this woman did revolve around her medical needs as she was an end-stage cancer patient, as well as diabetic. I helped manage her medication schedule, transportation and ensuring she went to medical/doctor appointments. I also monitored her daily health needs such as blood pressure, blood sugars, etc. I would like to care for you or a loved one in your home, and assist you with some of your care needs. I am willing to assist with light housekeeping, meal preparations, exercise/physical therapy programs, transportation and occasional errands or grocery shopping.
