I love elderly people. Even as a child I would visit the widow around the block on my bicycle at age 7 for tea. I love that they share their wisdom with you and getting to know them on a personal basis. My mother passed away from cancer at age 73 on Easter Sunday four years ago, just as I was starting out in caregiving. It made the job so much more personal for me since I hoped my mom received the kind of care I strive to give. As a mother of 9 children, I have been a care giver most of my life so it comes natural to me. At the nursing home I worked at I made some very close relationships and one gentleman asked me to marry him. I gave him a very gentle no. Death is no stranger to a care giver and that has been difficult. I'm alert to medicine prescribed to each patient and take great care making sure they are on the right schedule. I love most learning about the places the elders have been and the unusual crafts I have seen. It's nice when musicians come to visit them and seeing them so happy.
