I became a caregiver when I was eighteen years old, My boyfriend at the time was in a motorcycle wreck and broke his cervical spine (C4,5,6),resulting in quadriplegia. Married in 1983, we were determined to better my husband's circumstance. Continued Physical therapy, leg-brace walking, functional electrical stimulation therapy, handicap swimming lessons, and a new operational procedure (decompression surgery on the cervical spine with anterior/ posterior fusion). This is who I became. Today we are the proud grandparents of a beautiful baby boy. I like being a caregiver because I love people. I seem to never find myself at a loss of words in the presence of those who need my help. I am proud to be a part of what my husband and I have overcome throughout our many years together, I am a licensed CNA and a Physical therapy tech II. Having worked 4 years at a high level hospital for Hip and Knee replacement, I have experienced a very diverse cliental and have much to offer as a caregiver.
