For many years, my grandpa lived with dementia, near complete vision loss, and the effects of strokes and I was a large part of caring for him. My grandma was his primary caregiver, but of course she needed help. I valued being a companion to my grandpa, helping him eat, helping him enjoy television despite having low vision, and helping him maintain as much mobility as possible. After he passed away, I volunteered in a care center visiting hospice patients who were also suffering with dementia. I hope that I will find an opportunity to help a family care for their loved one and ease just a little bit of the stress that comes with caregiving.
