I was primary caretaker of my mother for over twenty years, and took care of my mother during her entire hospice care time of six months. My mother was not an easy pliable person, nor was she a hard person, she was however my mother and deserving of respect and loving care. All people should be treated with respect and tenderness. I have reflected back on my life and if I could go back in time I would have chosen another path for my career, I would have chosen taking care of people in a different capacity other than teaching. I taught for some years in different grade levels but would have loved to have been given the chance to care for those who are unable to care themselves. Perhaps as a nurse or social work, but now that I am nearing retirement I can place myself in a more useful position of employment and help those out who can't do it all by themselves any more with respect and dignity.
