About Cass

*Prefer to work only with female adults* Our hearts , minds, memories and more make up who we are and sometimes we forgot those things through external circumstances, illness, or things out of our control. That's where I come in. When I meet the person I am to care for , I want to know all about them . It's not just about the basic of care given as anyone can do that, I want to make sure I give my 110% and am always studying. I want to know what are their favorite things , where did they grow up, belief system, triggers, anything about her or him that can help me add happiness to his or her life and those around him or her. Being understood is very important for anyone especially to those who are being affected physically and or mentally. This allows me to give the right care. This all started for me as a child , my sister was born with down syndrome and I was always around individuals that had unique abilities different from others. They were innocent and always seemed complete to me. Their will power to strive was always there and their laughter contagious. My sister gave me more gifts than anyone in this world could offer to me . She taught me values of the heart and things I can see in people that others sometimes can't. Growing up, I started learning that society even some so called caregivers didn't treat people that were unique as beautiful people . I learned quick to become a strong advocate for those who are not being treated right at a young age and even had to get into fights ( which I am not proud of ) to protect my sister and others from these people . As I grew up and matured, I learned to advocate through the legal system and rules which I used on countless occasions. I want to make a difference in how the way the system is ran and can only do so much, but the little difference I make in someones life today , makes their tomorrow better. That's what I enjoy most , making a difference.

    Experience & Education

    Adult Developmental Home Provider

    Aug 2011 - Present
    All In The Family
My responsibilities are to serve and advocate for adults who are developmentally delayed while living in my home. Live in placements allow me to properly care for and understand each client and their specific needs, personalities, ways of communication, triggers and so forth to a deeper level to maximize their functioning levels and habilitation achievements. I do not see it as what I have acheived as this field is not about that with what so many put on their resumes. It's about what the people I have cared for have achieved as my job is to serve them and give them the proper care and understanding needed to touch their potential to strive. Understanding them individually, giving them a happy life and helping them reach their goals as a team together are my top priorities.

    Habilitation and Respite Provider

    Jan 2010 - Jan 2011
    Cerebral Palsy Assn
Providing habilitation and or respite to individuals or families. My clients included a child(anon #1) with moderate autism , a child (anon #2) with severe autism, a child (anon #3) expected to pass at any day with cerebral palsy, and an elderly woman who was bed ridden with mild dementia (anon #4) . ( I use anon for anonymous)..... All were respite care except for anon #2 where we worked on letters, numbers and sign language (which I learned more of on my days off ) . Anon#2 wanted hugs which was fantastic because people with autism don't like to be touched . Anon#1 and I worked on postive enforcement and calming techniques to go into the shower as his parents explained to me the difficulty of getting him to go do it . This was a gift to his parents and he showed them what he could do when we got it right #3 had a hard time gripping things so him and I would work on holding toys , he actually held onto a toy for 10 seconds which was huge for him and worked on having him try to grab for it because he couldn't. We were unable to tackle this goal as his family moved out of state. Anon #4 was wonderful and taught me how to make lasagna . I did hygiene care and anything she needed . She talked about her life and I listened . Lifted her in her electric chair and we would cook together and chat away about whatever she wanted , play games or whatever and I made sure to take mental notes of who she is and was in case one day she forgot so I could remind her.

    Dietary Aide

    Jan 2005 - Jan 2008
    Santa Rita Care Ctr
Although my basic job requirements were to assist the cook with basic dietary help with puree, mechanical soft and reguar prep work as well as clean up . This job introduced me more into the elderly population during high school. As a child, I would visit the elderly homes , visit with the elderly and listen to their stories and enjoy sitting with them when I could visit . When I started the dietary job, i would come in early or on my days off , sit with a few of the residents and just listen to their stories, even if they just told me the same story yesterday or a few minutes ago. Especially repetition of a question because of forgetfulness is something that just makes my heart warm. Just to see a smile or to make sure all residents were properly being taken care of on my days off (which I did report a few staff anonymously) was very important to me . This wasn't just a job to me , the people were a priority to be cared for and any little difference I could make mattered. I would try the puree food to make sure it tasted good before giving it out to everyone. I also got a woman to eat after a few days of her not eating by just sitting with her and eating puree food with her.

What makes me a great caregiver is that I' am very passionate about my job. I love working for others, providing the necessary care to improve the quality of life for my clients, I' am very patient, I' am a good listener, I communicate affectively, I' am a quick thinker, problem solver, and very caring. I became a caregiver to help others during a very delicate time. It is not always easy to ask for help, or receive help from anyone. This is what drives me to help others. To help them feel comfortable and cared for. I enjoy making others happy. A personal achievement I' am proud is returning to school part time to receive a social work degree.
