I became a caregiver becauseI love providing caregiving services to those that would otherwise not be able to do so. The smile on their faces is overwhelming and makes me feel I have done my job right. I have always enjoyed helping people ,so I know I am doing the right thing. What i like about being a caregiver,I enjoy the opportunity to impact clients' lives and make a difference to them. I am a firm believer that yet there is loss of cognition as well as physical abilities in the older population it is important to regain and or maintain self sufficiency as much as possible by learning their needs and approach with unconditional love. I have an unconditional love for the elderly as well as the ill. I have an extensive background in healthcare. I have worked in many different settings whether that is nursing homes, homecare, hospitals. Mainly hospitals. Extensive work history in Med. Surg/Tele/Post Partum/ICU/Burn Unit/Rehab/Ortho/Oncology/Transitional Care Unit/Inmate Ward/Pediatrics/ER units. Ever since I took care of my grandmother when I was 21 yrs. of age, I knew then that this is my calling. I have acquired achievements during my career whether by thank you notes, a prayer book by Joel Osteen. It's the simple rewards that give me satisfaction. While employed at St. Mary's Carondelet I was recognized by the Unit Base Committee on the MSO (medical,surgical,oncology unit) for being the best employee as well as the best rounder. I have the documentation. No greater reward for me than knowing that I took care of the pt. to the best of my ability. It's not about the money.
