I have empathy, not sympathy. I often put myself in the person's shoes. How would I feel if I were that person, and then respond with what might make me feel better. My attraction to caregiving came at a young age with my Gramps. He was ill when I was about 9 yrs old. It became a family affair to help care for him. I loved it though. Then my grandmother became ill, I then took on the roll of caring for her. Then my Mom became ill, and that itself took on an entirely new meaning. I promised myself, I would not allow anyone to be in a nursing home, if I could help it. This is why I want to care give. I love meeting new people and making them happy, this I find most rewarding. My best personal achievement is always being there when someone feels they have no one. Always making them feel wanted/needed and included. We all need to feel that way. I find this to be the most amazing feeling in the world, and I love to see the smile it brings to someones face.
