I became a caregiver 11 years ago when I decided to leave my full time job and care for my aging parents and grandmother. My mother had been caring for my father who was a stroke patient for many years and then became responsible for my grandmother who had dementia. I could see her body getting tired and her health starting to fail so I became a caregiver for all three and I care for them until the day they died. I like being a caregiver because it gives you a chance to do a job that you have to want to do. My own personal achievement would be the care I was able to give my mother and time I took to learn how to care for her and being able to be there for her like she had been there for so many others. She went first but she went knowing that I was capable of caring for my father and grandmother just as she would have. I'm a Certified Phlebotomist /Medical Assistant and the mother of two small boys I like being a caregiver because it allows me to have a job helping people and still be and available mother to my boys.
