Hi, my name is Colleen. I am four months away from becoming a registered nurse, I currently hold a certified nursing assistant license, along with a certification in CPR/BLS. Many aspects of nursing have always been a part of my life as far back as I can remember. My second to eldest brother was born with Congenital Glaucoma; completely blind in the right eye and partially blind in the left eye. As a family, we face a number of obstacles to meet his needs. Monthly travels to San Francisco, California for eye specialists, surgeries and just thirty-minute check-ups. My family's life revolved around hospital visits and San Francisco's Ronald McDonald Home. Close to his age and resembled enough to be mistaken as his twin, I remained my brother's right hand soon as I could walk. I stayed by his side whenever he needed assistance and of course, his buddy. As young adults, I became his caregiver, a paid part-time job under the State of California through In-Home Supportive Services which taught me how to care for him in a more professional caregiver to client manner. Nonetheless, my passion for nursing didn't evolve with just caring for my older sibling or even stumbling upon situations where I stood the only calm individual in emergency situations. My curiosity began when I came across websites such as Samaritan Purse and Doctors without Borders. In October of 2017 and 2018, I embarked on medical mission overseas. I traveled to Haiti with other medical professionals from around the US, serving 100-150 children a day for basic medical needs. My passion comes in serving others and hope one day, I can help serve you.
