About Portia

I am a hard working, comitted and trust worthy advocate for the disabled and elderly community. I am also a wiling learner and team player. Giving back to others in need of help has always been of priority. This passion was established as a child. Where I would often volunteer to assist and be a companion for disabled children. I was given the oppurtunity as a careprovider in an ICF/DDH in 2001; which gave me such reward and training it preimplanted me to also seek employment at an Adult Day Care facility. During the course of employment I entered as a direct support staff, quickly being promoted as the activity director then eventually Assistant Program Director. Currently I work for Westside Regional Center in their respite department; where I independently assist with individuals and their families throughout Los Angels county. In my spare time I also volunteer at the SPCA, homeless ministry and assist my elderly and disabled neighbors with activies of daily living.

I would also conduct or attend consumer meetings as well as communicate with service coordinators/providers, doctors and guardians. Due to the facilities high volume of behavioral consumers I would often assist in assuring safety to consumers and staff in redirection or CPI (crisis provention intervention) as a last resort. As Program Director I also maintained attendance,inventory ,special incident reporting and ISP reports.
