About Raquel

Greetings future client I know all is well because I want to help you make it well! I am 31 years old, a new mother to a wonder 20 months son, and a full time student. I am two months shy of completing my certification as a licensed phlebotomist, and then in the fall I will be starting a weekend two years LVN coarse. If I can describe myself in one word I'd say, "confident." I say that because I do push myself hard and do not mind the struggle if blessings and success is the out come of it. And to be honest that is my blessing and downfall at the same time. Usually I am working 1-3 jobs at a time while in school, and I would push myself too hard and burn myself out. And now as a full time mom and full time student who needs to earn income as well, I am seeing that it's not a wise choice to work full time like I usually do. For most of my employment history I have worked in food and beverage industry and thrived in it. Working in restaurants is very demanding and I would get promoted fast and was an all star, but that require myself coming in and staying late at the drop of a dime and alot of dedication that I was to transfer that dedication to part time work, school, and my child. I would describe myself as confident but anyone else that's knows me would consider me a "nurturer" or a "mom". When I worked in food and beverage my guest would love me because I took my time and got to know them and their needs. Even if they ordered and thought that's what they wanted, I would talk them through the menu and find ways to save them money. Most servers I worked with would try to up charge to increase their tips, I on the other wouldn't. And for some reason I made more money not even trying to. And I treated my senior guest as if I was treating my grandma. I am currently helping my grandma free of charge and have been since 2006. And she keeps on telling me that she want me to become a nurse because I care.

Care Giver

My Grandmother
My Grandmother Florida Louise Toomer is now 86 years young. In 1998 I had the hugest scare of my young life when she was diagnosed for the first time with breast cancer. She conquered it with her first chemotherapy session. Yet cancer came back in 2005, and she survived it again. She is now 86 years old and my family and I rotate days and times to cater to her and help her out. Even though she is no longer struggling with cancer, she is currently battling some other health issues. I now pick up her medication from Kaiser, cook, do cleaning, and take her to the stores and whatever else she may need. I nor does anyone get paid for helping her. We take great care of her and she is pleased with what I do for her. Sometimes I will just go sit up at her house just to give her company or take her to sit out in the sun. Helping my grandma makes me happy because I know I make her happy. I go visit her senior home and it saddens me that alot of these seniors don't have company. I wish I could help them all out but I am a full time student now and need to make some form of income to support myself and child. And this has became a passion of mine. And even though I will be getting paid. I know that it will make me happy to be there for someone and do a good job at it.

Food server

Nov 2015 - Oct 2017
Lucille's Smokehouse Bar B Que
I worked in a face pace working environment where I performed multiple task at once: food serving, remembering food orders without writing them down, cleaning, stock and inventory, communicating with guest and taking my time to hear them out and care; as well as being trusted with large amount of money. My last week there I scored a "perfect / 100%" secret shopper report. My family/ guest I have served whom became regular customers of mine/ and friends have always encouraged me to go to medical school and leave the food and beverage industry because of my care giving personality and ability to meet folks needs.

Casino Banker

Jul 2014 - Jan 2015
Blackstone Gaming
(Temporary Position) Blackstone Gaming is a third-party casino corporation that is the middle man between the casino house and the casino players. In order to work for this company I had to pass four complicated test based in mathematics. I was cleared through two forms of background checks and had to wear California State badges for cash clearance. I was also trained and tested thoroughly for casino games such as Blackjack, Baccurrat, and poker. My position as a casino Banker consisted of myself counting cards, and counting chips/ cash, overseeing the tables to assure the dealers were playing correctly, collecting lost bets, and paying out players when they won. I was also responsible for keeping records in ledgers, and paying out tax collections for the Casino house.

Food Server and Certified Trainer

Jul 2011 - Feb 2014
The Olive Garden
At the Oliver Garden I was promoted to a certified trainer and wine host. I was considered a lead server which meant I worked large sections and was responsible for checking and signing off my fellow co-workers on shift(s) side work chores. I was responsible for training new servers. I served, bartended, I was the night time closer and was responsible for walking through with the manager on shift to make sure the restaurant was perfect and nothing was left on. As a bartender I had to work in a fast pace and gear through memory. I also hosted wine tasting classes for guest. I also lead the team breif meetings before shift. And as the closer I had to count of the registers with the manager.
