Nurse Assistant

Lois Gill
I work the night shifts for a private hire client, Lois Gill. She uses a walker with standby assist to prevent falls and now prefers bedside bathing nightly. Meds and supplements are given routinely, eye drops and eye ointment included. Much patience is required because she is very very slow, stubborn and persnickety. Besides a heart condition she has OCD and dementia with a declining short term memory. It takes a particular skill and awareness to manage her routine.

Caregiver/Companion

Nov 2012 - Apr 2015
Jean Sutton
Jean had a fall and broke her wrist and injured her lower back. I was her Big Helper keeping her interested in life and daily activities, (med for depression given at night time). Some responsibilities were meal prep, drive and assist her to medical appointments and PT, shopping for food and clothing, and lunch outings. Jean is a very gracious person, however has a rare kind of dementia related to daily consumption of alcohol in small amounts. She was very slow in walking and repeated her stories numerous times. Much patience was required for her as she was oblivious to time.

George Vidis
I was a live-in caregiver/companion for George during his partner's travels 5 to 6 times during the year. These stay varied in time from 2weeks to one month. George has Parkinson's. He was in the second though forth stages of this disease. He needed guidance walking. Meds given regularly every 2 hours. And toward the later part ADL's assisted. This person needed much psychological support which I was able to help with.

caregiver

Nov 2010 - Jul 2012
Mr. and Mrs. Kim
Mr. Kim was blind due to neglect of prescribed eyedrops, and Mrs. Kim had Alzheimer's, last stages. Assistance with ADL's and meds given 3x daily. Mr. Kim loved classical music and when possible outings revolved around live music playing in malls and city centers. Mrs. Kim was a very sweet person but very difficult at Sundown, sometimes striking out at the caregiver who is helping her. She would later apologize. I learned to speak Alzheimers. Her children participated daily for a couple hours to help ease stress. Meds were of little help. Although both were ambulatory, wheelchairs were used for the daily outings.

The usual ADL's, Supplements and meds. Stella, the mother of Sandy, at age 92-93 had severe arthritis and was bedridden for a few years. She needed a kind person to attend to her daily needs. And someone to hold her boney hand and give her a smile to cheer up her day. I stayed with her thru hospice care. Plus several intermittent caregiver work experiences dating back to 1994

I've always enjoyed helping and caring for others. As I grew up my mother was a nurse and I always admired her want to help people. Helping care for my mom when she was sick and facing different health problems made me realize that's exactly what I wanted to do. I love being able to care for people and help them when they may not be able to help them selves. It is a very rewarding job.
