Hello! I never set out to become a caregiver, but as the only child to older parents (dad 55, mom 47 when I was born), perhaps it was inevitable? I moved home from working abroad to help my mother, taking on increasing caregiving load as her dementia progressed until her passing in 2021. My experience runs the gamut from companionship and outings for errands and fun for a patient still very sharp and active, to the personal hygiene, feeding and care for a bed bound patient with end-stage dementia, and everything in between. My main caveat is, all my experience is with the same patient, my mother. I hope to parlay my experience to be of assistance to others--having been the sole caretaker for my mom, I know how exhausting, frustrating and stressful it can be. I am confident in my ability to safely lift, carry and move a patient up to 120lbs, and can provide assistance and support for heavier. Native English speaker, can communicate in Japanese (not quite business level), understand some Mandarin (elementary level), understand a limited amount of Taiwanese and Spanish.
