*I always greet people with a warm friendly smile. Sometimes I'd find something respectfully humorous things to say to lighten up the mood in the room if I notice that Mrs J or Mr D might not be having a good day. Only if I have been taking care of them or and individual for a while and we have built a relationship. Many years ago, I helped my mother take care of my father who was recovering from a stroke that paralyzed his left side. I learned from my mother how important personal hygiene and good nutritional meals was for a person who had mobility issues. That was many years ago. Both my parents have passed away in the late 1990s. Since then, I find joy in taking care of senior citizens when I moved to the USA many years ago. Especially when I was able to tackle a challenging task with individuals concerning a hygienic issue, where an individual thought that she or he just showered when in fact it has been 2 days already. Or refuses to take his or her meds. Because of my many years of experience working as a Caregiver. I have learned to use key words as points of redirections if it's a person that is struggling with Alzheimer's and Dementia. I am a great believer in treating our elderly with compassion, empathy, respect and dignity that they deserve on a daily basis. *My personal achievement that I am most proud of is seeing my 26-year-old daughter graduate from college with a BA in world history. I paid her way to college with my hard-earned paychecks from working as a Caregiver here in the US.
