About Sharon

I became a caregiver because I enjoy helping and caring for others especially those with Alzheimer's Disease as I have an over abundance of patience. During the last 25 years I have been primarily a live-in caregiver therefore I have been with them up to the time they passed away. I have also taken care of patients on Hospice. I have been a cake decorator for over 35 years, I enjoy crafts and taking clients to senior centers for the assorted activities they offer.

    Experience & Education

    Live-in caregiver for her aunt.

    Mar 2012 - Dec 2013
    Dr. Mary Louise Labrucherie
I was a live-in caregiver for her Aunt Mary who had Alzheimer's. I kept her entertained by taking her to the senior center recreational events for lunch and bingo, to the high schools for bingo and to various events sponsored by the mobile home park where she lived. I cooked, cleaned, grocery shopping, laundry, gardening, cut her hair, did her nails, took her to her Dr. appointments and took care of her little dog. When she turned for the worst and was receiving hospice care I took very good care of her until the last day of her life. She passed away at 95 years of age.

    Live-in caregiver for her mother

    Feb 2009 - Mar 2012
    Rachel M
Her mother Mary was in the middle stage of Alzheimer's, a diabetic, took numerous medications for other illnesses. She often hid her medication and refused to take them I had to find them, crush them and hide them in her food. I cut and dyed her hair and mended her clothing. I cleaned her house, fixed some of her meals, did her laundry, grocery shopped and took her to her Dr. appointments. I also reorganized her cupboards and closets. Her husband was in a local nursing home and I transported her there everyday and waited while she visited with him. She was eventually put in a nursing home by her son.

Live in caregiver for both of their grandmothers

    Jun 2000 - Sep 2008
    Deanna & Mark Davenport
I was a companion, assisted with their dressing, bathing, personal care, such as nails, perms, cutting their hair, cooked, cleaned, grocery shopping, gardening and attended to their animals. Taken them to Dr. appointments, when one of them was admitted to the hospital I went there to feed her each of her meals until she was released to come home. I was with both of them until they passed away at home.

I am excited to gain more experience in caregiving since I will be in nursing school soon. I am certified as a nursing assistant, and I have experienced working with elderly patients at a skilled nursing facility during my clinicals. I love talking to and getting to know the people I care for. Before I had my children, (teen girls), I worked as an EMT/first responder for about 4 years and loved it. I have always enjoyed working in the medical field. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay at home and raise my girls, and now I am ready to get back to work and do what I'm meant to do. A personal achievement that I am proud of is my family. I have been married for 28 years and we have our 2 daughters that are well rounded, smart, and generous people. They are my best accomplishments so far.
