I have worked in customer service as a host and later on as a server for the majority of my adult life. I also have experience in childcare and elderly care. I worked closely with Alzheimer's and dementia residents at Somerford Place, an Alzheimer's and memory care facility. Through all of my experience working with children, restaurant guests and elderly Alzheimer's residents, I have learned to be patient and understanding. From serving, i learned not to rush a guest into completing their order, but instead to guide them towards what will make their stay enjoyable, I took this same patience into my work at Somerford Place. Though I was only there for a short time, due to scheduling issues, I learned how to go at the residents' pace, how to allow them to take their time and to try to complete a task on their own to promote their independence. I am a strongly detail oriented person, and I can manage many tasks at once. I've always had an interest in working in the medical field. Currently I am in school to become an LVN with the possibility of continuing on the be a registered nurse. I feel that being a caregiver is a great way of getting to really know the needs of patients and residents so that I can carry on that knowledge as a nurse. The best thing about being a caregiver is getting to know my residents and learning about their experiences in life, and feeling like I add something positive in their lives is the best feeling.
