First of all, I have been a caregiver for over fifteen years now. I was inspired to become a caregiver because of my grandma. She had her own home health care business that she worked in for forty years. So actually, I have been in a home health care environment, since I was a young boy. I would help my grandma with her patients sometimes, and when I did, I started to realize that I liked being able to help elderly people who were in need of care. In addition, I enjoyed their fellowship. On the other hand, there was a husband and wife that I took care of in their own home. And their son told me that it will not be easy to take care of his mother because she really doesn't feel like she needs anybody to take care of her and her husband as well. And to make a long story short, before she passed away, she said to me that she will miss me. That really touched my heart. And when I mentioned this to her son and daughter in-law, they were both suprised to hear that. They said that she really didn't like too many people in her life. This really encouraged me as well. Another patient of mine, who was the wife of a doctor, said to me, that I reminded her of one of her son's who had passed away. I really appreciated that complement from her. Then there was two other patients of mine, a husband and wife. I really liked them, and truly miss them both. Also, there was another patient of mine, who was an older gentlemen, and he was a WW2 Veteran. I was with him longer than any other patient that I have had since. I learned alot from him. For one thing, he helped me to learn how to play the piano and I never thought that I could. I said to him, that I think he would of been a good teacher in school. Furthermore, he told me that I was like a step-son to him. In conclusion, my late grandma would say to me that, getting an education is important in life, experience is still the best teacher. Especially, when it pertains to being a home health care provider.
