There was a woman (quadriplegic) who lived in my building and we used to smile at each other in the elevator of when I saw her outside I would always stop and stay with her for 10-15 minutes. One day, someone from her family contacted me and asked if I could take care of her, drive her around to the doctor, to see scenery, just to get her out of the house. My next experience came with my own Grandmother. She retired early to take care of my Grandfather who died one year later. She was crushed. So my Mom always made sure she had her own place a block away. When my Mom passed, I took my Grandmother (cutie) in with myself, wife and my little daughter who was about six months old at the time. She was very sick, could barely walk, frail...could not leave her alone for a minute. Took her on her doctor appointments, food shopping (she had to that herself) and so on. My Grandmother was 85 when we took her in and we felt she was ready to go at any time. I believe the face that she lost her Granddaughter (my sister) and her Daughter (my Mom) way before their time, the opportunity of watching her Great-Grandaughter grow up for the last five years of her life. She passed at 90. I miss her. As you can see, my family are all givers. I have had an excellent career that I no longer enjoy and I would like to give myself to people who need me. To me...that is the most rewarding thing I could do with my life.
