What makes me a good caregiver is that through previous experience I have learned how to identify potential challenges that may arise. For example, when getting ready for a doctors appointment all my attention should be focused on the patient and watching the time. Sometimes patients have extremely slow moments in which case requires some prompting and supervision to meet the appointment time. Travel must always be considered and the time it takes to travel to the appointment. So getting ready early is a must. I became a caregiver because very simply I care. I treat people the way I expect people to treat me which is through compassion, empathy and professionalism. I also became a caregiver because of the flexible hours and independence while on the job. My personal achievements are I worked 30 years in the workers compensation industry and proud of it. As a caregiver the achievements I believe that are important to me are forming a good trusting relationship with the patient. I've learned that letting them know just before I do something like closing the blinds or leaving the room to do laundry helps give them a sense of security.
