I have enjoyed working with the elderly since a young age, as I grew up on a farm with my grandmother. In my late teens, my grandmother developed dementia, and my family and I were fortunate to find wonderful caregivers to provide in-home support. In large part to this experience, I studied Healthcare Inequalities focusing on the stigma of old age. Subsequently, I conducted an ethnographic study of the Gray Panthers, an old-age activist group. I continued this interest into graduate school, where I conducted life history interviews with feminist activists in London to explore the intersection of old age and gender in the London feminist movement.
