I assisted my mother in caring for my great-grandmother once she was diagnosed with dementia at 92 years of age. I then realized how it takes a special type of person to gently handle and understand patients with this diagnosis. My grandmother became combative and would refuse care from the nurses while in the hospital. Some nurses had patience with her and others did not. I would stay at the hospital with her and bathe her as well as feed her just to make sure she was well taken care of. Working at a nursing home as a CNA was my first job. I was inspired by my grandmother to treat all of my patients the same way I wanted those nurses to treat my grandmother while they were going through their difficult time. Afew years later my mom was diagnosed with cancer and I moved back home to take care of her while she went through her treatments and went into remission. I now have been employed at California hospital for the last 5 years and most of my patients tell me that I have a gift and that I was their angel. I love helping others and doing anything that I can do to help them with having a good day. I am a very compasionate and empathetic person who's a hard worker. Nursing and nurturing is just apart of who I am.
