1. I became a Caregiver when I was a young girl at the age of seven. I helped my great grandmother when she broke her hip at age seventy five. I helped her with physical therapy, medication, and meeting her many needs. Later on when I was flying for Delta Airlines as a flight attendant, my grandmother was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Every chance I had when I was not flying, I would help take care of all her needs. She lived for a few more years after the diagnosis, and it meant so much to me to be there for her during this time. 2. I love giving and doing for others by caring for them doing their time of need. It makes me feel like a true Christian to care for others in this way. It affects my inner soul that I am indeed doing God's work in this regard. I really love caring for others and I prove that every day with my friends and family. 3. I am proud that I have been married for almost twenty five years and have two wonderful children. My name is Mackenzie Sawyer, and I'm 31 years old. I recently just got accepted into the SCC nursing program. I have always been in the medical field as a pharmacy technician. I finally realized my passion is to become a nurse. I am currently enrolled in the CNA 1 class at SCC and should have my state certificate by June. I'm very compassionate and understanding of other people and their feelings, I love helping others. Even as a kid I knew I wanted to help elderly or disabled people in any way I could. I enjoy making my clients happy and helping them with tasks they may not be able to do anymore. I am proud of how many skills I have learned over the years and all the certifications I have gotten!

My approach as a caregiver is having an understanding that the people and their families that I am helping are just that: people. They have feelings and emotions and want to be treated as people not as patients. They have life and vitality and a history and a future. All of these things that make them people are to be respected. It is my intent to minimize the limitations that may be a product of age and allow them to continue their lives individually and with their families as much as is possible. I have worked for Home Health and Hospice for many years (20) I have had a lot of training on patient care and transfers. The agency did a lot of continuing education with us. I have worked in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee. And North Carolina. Now I just want to have job 3 or 4 days a week or even a few hours a day.
