I am a great caregiver because I actually wanted to become a nurse because I was raised by my grandmother and I watched her be a caregiver to her parents and kids and also raise me as a daughter and I am her granddaughter. My great grandmother had multiple sclerosis when I was growing up as a young child and she lived next door to us. I used to go help my grandma take care of her till she got bedridden and passed. Both of my grandfathers also had Alzheimer's, dementia and Parkinson's I was also a full-time caregiver to one of them as a young adult. When I was young my grandfather was very sick. He had several Strokes over the years. My grandmother had no choice but to work to take care of him. So my family and I had to pull together and take care of him. We had to do things such as changing his adult diapers, bathing him feeding him, transferring him. But most of all showing him the love and compassion that he needed. He was a very proud man. He always took care of everyone else. He didn't like having other people to take care of him. So we did everything humanly possible to make him more comfortable. That's what got me into this line of work. And that's what I think of every time I go to a client's house. I think, if this was papaw... what would I do? This is the only job I've ever really loved. And I suppose I have him to thank for it.
