I have worked as a Personal Care Giver since 1991 on and off. At that time the PCA position wasn't thought of yet, I was considered a Housekeeper, but I did all the duties required such as clean the house, laundry meals medication assisting, whatever needed done or we would just sit and talk. Currently I have been taking care of a 90-year young lady who has dementia. I took care of my mother who had Dementia the last 9 years of her life.

I have a somewhat goofy personality, I like to joke around and sometimes be silly, but I'm very good with the elderly. I'm very kind and understanding about them not being able to do things on their own or that they may take a little longer. I don't rush them. And they tend to appreciate that. I decided to be a CNA in 2002 because I was tired of working as a waitress and needed a better paying job to support my children, but I also enjoy being around elderly people and talking to them, learning about their lives, what they did for a living, their families and I LOVE looking at their old pictures and helping them walk down memory lane. I think an achievement I'm proud of is paying 50,000 dollars cash for our house. My husband got a settlement and that's what we did with it. My PERSONAL achievement that I'm proud of is of course my children but also being able to survive the death of my 5 year old daughter and to be able to tell parents how important it is to keep medications locked up. There's a lot of things I'm proud of in my life, way too many to list here.
