I love to help others!!For 28 years it has brought me joy to know that I do something everyday that puts a smile on an individuals face. I'm giving back what was given to me, at sometime or another we all need someone to care for us so its my duty to give back. Raising my kids and finishing school so i could do what i love. I have been an emergency technician for the past 26 years. I took care of a vast array of patients including many who were in critical condition. I recently left the ER to be the caretaker for a husband and wife. I am responsible for bathing, cooking, grocery shopping, medication distribution, and household cleaning. Its a joy being able to help keep them out of a nursing home. The wife has end stage COPD and the husband has Parkinsons. I am especially proud that because of my efforts they are still living at home. The relationship I have built with them has been well worth it too. The husband has even given me the nickname Christmas because he looks forward to seeing me every morning.

Throughout my profession, I learned the most significant lesson that can never be taught in a training; everyday life experiences. I saw how tough life can be through simple things we often take for granted such as walking, doing laundry and preparing food. It gave me a reason and a purpose to help other families as well. As time passes, it's natural to be concerned for the well-being of our own and our family. I know for me, my grandfather's safety was important to me all the way to his last day from cancer. Raised by my grandmother, I developed the passion of caring for the elderly at a very young age. I worked closely with my grandmother and grandaunts with their daily activities. While in high school, I applied for summer jobs as a caregiver with companies such as home instead senior center and act agency. I enjoyed being around the elderly and providing assistance with daily living. I enjoy the knowledge I gained from interacting. With them on all levels and the stories I was told about life in general. I have been blessed to be in this field for over 10 years and have applied so much of what was passed on by my clients to various areas of life. I am currently a bachelors and masters degree holder in health education and I still find myself attracted to the field of home health and working with the elderly. From 2012 to 2015 , I was blessed to work in a live-in case with a lovely lady who recently passed away in March of 2015. Working with my client for three years, I lived with her and viewed her as more than just a client. She took the role of my late grandmother and I cared for her deeply. I am very passionate about caring for the seniors and I do it with so much pride. I hope to one day open my own home Health agency.

I began my study in the science of nursing, applied myself academically, received scholarships and graduated with honors because I wanted a good job with the opportunity for growth and advancement. This is the statement many people use in the cover letter of a resume without understanding what it really means. During my tours of duty I had the pleasure of working with a diverse population of people who taught me everything I know today. I learned to listen, be prudent, patient, empathetic and humble, and build trusting relationships. I didn't learn this from professors in college, instructors during clinical rotations, nor preceptors who oriented me to a new health care position. I learned from our seniors who struggle with dementia, our children who struggle with genetic disease syndrome, and our family, friends and neighbors who struggle with mental illness. I have been blessed with the opportunity to work in the areas of geriatric, pediatric, and behavioral health nursing. The people in my care revealed to me without saying a word that the good job with the opportunity for growth and advancement that I was looking for was with me the whole time. I was the good job that needed to be done, and I have people like your loved ones to thank for that. Early in my career as a registered nurse I decided to focus on home care because it was depressing to be surrounded by sick people who had to wait for pain medication, and help with meals, bathing, grooming, and toileting, and I couldn't help all of them. Home care affords me the time to focus on my actual employer's business at hand. That is your loved one's needs and concerns. I have cared for and raised five children and worked caring for people in multiple settings for over 25 years. I am on my own again and have relocated to my hometown of Somerset to start fresh. I am anxious to reconnect with the area and love caring for individuals on a one on one basis.
