I have worked as a caregiver on and off for over 27 years. I have worked both with the elderly and the developmentally disabled. The last 15 years I have switched to doing more administration work which I have not found near the sense of personal achievement. I find myself now at a cross roads. I still currently work part time as a staffing coordinator at our local hospital which is leaving me with a lot of free time on my hands and want to give back. I loved working both with the elderly and the disabled and have experienced many moments of personal achievement while working with them. The one moment that really stands out for me was when I took a group of children with developmentally disabilities camping. The joy that they experienced from that trip will always warm my heart. I have recently joined a group called I Run 4 Michael which is a running group for developmentally disabled children which both rewarding for them and me personally. I am an avid runner and the joy that this group brings to the children, their parents and the runners themselves is so rewarding. My father was recently put into a nursing home for a short period of time which was a real eye opener for me. I had forgotten what a lonely place those could be for so many. My heart went out to those residence who appeared to have no one that would come visit them. I found myself not only being there for my father but for other residence.
