To be helpful, and because I loved her, I started helping my grandmother with daily needs. She paid me for the help. We had so much fun and I realized that it didn't feel like work because we were taking care of her everyday things. Later, as my dad's memory was declining with Alzheimer's disease, I stepped in regularly to provide respite for my mom. I learned so much and was glad to assist. These were key motivators for learning about and working with senior adults. I took a class in therapeutic recreation that taught alot about physical and mental needs of seniors. I value learning, but even more, I value the relationships made from helping. Part of my personality wants to have fun, always. So, while providing basic needs, I hope to bring levity and happiness to the lives of my clients. If we eat, we chat. If we drive, we sing. If we take on a task, we make time to enjoy life too. I love my work.
