I worked the graveyard shift in housing and security. I would make sure offenders were in their cells at all times unless being escorted to the kitchen to work or to the de-escalation rooms. My jobs are to monitor inmates in living areas as well as recreational areas and the yard. I oversee inmates and visitors in the visitation areas. I perform as control center officer and provide emergency responses. I also coordinate and supervise inmate movements and perform counts in specified housing units along with entire inmate activity areas. I oversee labor crews in the kitchen along with other various specialized areas. Ensure prompt and apt assistance to all inmates in event of illness, injury and emotional trauma. I develop correctional reports as well as maintain everyday logs. I perform shakedowns for contraband while promoting facility cleanliness and report maintenance or other repair issues. I act as a guide towards lower-graded Correctional Officers as needed. I promote independence within the inmate population. I maintain and present proficiency in use of firearms, force applications, restraints, and unarmed self-defense.

My job duties included administering medication to patients per doctors' prescriptions, and observing correct times to dispense these medications. This included dispensing oral, topical, and other types of medication. I supervised patients as they administered their own medication, ensuring that all prescriptions were taken properly and that dosage instructions were followed. I also observed patients, noting any changes to their appearance or behavior, and answered questions about medications from patients and family members. I alerted nursing staff of potential medication interactions and signs that patients were having a poor reaction to certain medications. I also maintained patient records, accurately recording when medications had been dispensed and adding other care notes as necessary. As a QMAP, I properly stored medication. This included refrigerating certain medications and keeping narcotics and potentially dangerous medications in safe storage so they were not accessible to patients. I also assisted nursing staff with patient care as requested. This included helping to lift and transport patients and assisting with the operation of various medical equipment.

I worked on External Security. I would man the Sally Port to make sure nothing is brought into the facility in the back. I drove perimeter to prevent any escapes. I posted at Main Entry checking staff and visitors in and out. I also worked in Master Control checking keys and equipment out to staff. I also worked inside the facility maintain safety and security for staff and inmates. I did pat downs, shakedowns, cell searches, escorts, and many more things to ensure all within the facility stayed safe and went home. During my time at Sterling Correctional I also worked in the kitchen for a month doing all of the cooking and cleaning in the kitchen. I worked on the lines with inmates, patted in and out, and also kept track of the food coming in and out of the kitchen.

I visually checked people coming and going to and from the hospital. I ensured that all hospital doors were checked on an hourly basis. I walked/drove around all buildings and grounds in order to ensure that security measures were properly undertaken. I confronted unauthorized individuals for questioning. I directed visitors to their required departments within the hospital. I patrolled hospital grounds and parking lots in order to ensure that all was under control. I checked cars and verified if they were parked in the right assigned areas. I ensured that all security equipment was in good working order, and tested it in order to ensure that it was working properly. I examined situations that were potentially harmful and intervened when necessary. I secured premises, property, and people by patrolling all assigned areas. I sound alarms when help was required. I encountered troublemakers, and detained them until authorities arrived, while first trying to deescalate the situation. I reported irregularities and prevented losses. I recorded observations, and place them in documents such as forms and reports. I implemented preventative measures so as to ensure that buildings, people, and the property remained safe from imminent harm. I responded to emergency calls for assistance in times of theft or disturbances. I inspect fire-fighting equipment and alarms in order to ensure that they worked properly.
