I grew up without grandparents. I have seen how the elderly can get mis treated and abused because they are so vulnerable. I love being around older people . I have a passion for taking care of the elderly. I've always been a very active person my whole life and taking care of them warms my heart, keeps me young and on my toes. They have so much knowledge and wisdom about life through there experiences . I currently am a caregiver for a older couple who have been married for 65 years . I've been with them for over 3 years now. I absolutely love them like if they were my own grandparents. And they love me just the same. I always treat my clients as if they were my own family . Because one day I myself am going to need the time and attention that I do give to my clients now. Do the elderly want to be dependent on someone else . Absolutely not and it does affect there emotions. But showing them patience and love and kindness will go along way with them. Being a care giver is one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had. When your client looks at you and tells you they love you . They're saying it because they truly want to not because they have too. I am also a certified nursing assistant. I also familiar with incontinence and exporting . All ADLs , medication distribution, cooking and cleaning ,bathing dressing and grooming. I can run errands . I can transport to docs appts . I'm also familiar with wound care. And using hoist lifts . I love to make people smile and feel good about themselves and it makes me feel good about myself . Hey, I'm Shakara Boles and for over the last 2 years and 4 months I been working with resident in a nursing home. I have a bachelors in psychology. But some where along the way I just fell in love with taking care of people. I knew that I wanted to help people but did not know it was by becoming a CNA. I'm very hardworking, determined, kind hearted, loving, and caring. Also ontop of working I am a mother of a 5 year old daughter and 6 months ago added another child into my daily routine my 4 year old niece. I'm a cheer coach ontop of that but never is to busy to take care of everything that's need to be done. I really didn't know what I would be doing after graduating school but before I graduated from college; I took a CNA course to make extra money but after doing it for so long I just fell in love with it all and I just couldn't leave it. I enjoy every moment about being a caregiver because I know I'm making a big difference into someone else life especially someone family member that they care for. It's never a dual moment having this as a career but it helps motivate you and keep you up on your toes to make sure that someone that is not related to you get all the help they need. I am proud of everything I have accomplish in my life time because I'm making a future that not only for me but my child and niece as well. One thing I am proud of that I can say is that becaming a CNA was the best decision I made because it helped me to become a better person and my love has grown even more because of this. I would not change any decision I made to become one.

My name is Savannah Hicks. Im 23 years old. I've worked as a caregiver for 4 years, 6mths in a nursing home 3 & 1/2 in a hospital. I chose to become a caregiver when in college trying to decide on my career path, I wasn't sure if I wanted to be a counselor or a nurse so i decided to do some volunteer work at a nursing home. I ended up getting a job there & fell in love with caring for others. I've seen & dealt with a lot in the short time I've been in the medical field. Its taught me a lot about myself & my knowledge has grown. I hope to one day be able to afford to go back to school become a nurse. I'm a single mom of a 18mth that keeps me on my toes & makes me even more greatful for this beautiful life God gave us both. I'm more grateful & compassionate to be able to take care of others because unlike most people my age I know what it's like to have to let someone take care of me. Long story short I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when my son was 7mths old, I had to have 2 different surgeries & undergo radiation. I'm now in remission & couldn't be more thankful to have the rest fo my life to spend with my beautiful little boy & serve others. I pray everyday for God to mold me into the person hes called me to be, & help bring other closer to him. Caring for others is definitely one of my callings in life & I'm more than happy to be seeing others.
