I started caregiving for my grandmother who was suffering from dementia. Being a good caregiver requires a lot of patience. HELLO! My career as a caregiver started with a chronically ill father. Throughout my childhood and in my early teens my dad was very ill with diabetes Type 1. When I was 5 years old my dad lost his eyesight. As a preteen I participated in his care helping with blood sugar readings and Insulin injections. When I was able to drive I help out by taking him to doctor's appointments. I went away to college and lived in Florida for a few years and as my dad became progressively worse I moved home. I have been a CNA for over 20 years. I started when I was 19 and fell in love with taking care of the elderly. I worked in Nursing Homes the majority of my career but within the last 3 years, have been doing in home private care. I love doing private care because it allows me the one on one time with my client that I was unable to have while working in a busy nursing home setting.
