I cared for both of my parents, whom have/had Alzheimer's disease. I cared for my mother, in her home until placed into a nursing home...but I still provide care for her, making sure she is safe, clean, as healthy as possible, and happy. While at home, I provided all ADL's (bathing,dressing, teeth brushing, toileting). Due to health issues and surgeries, I've learned basic wound care (proper procedures for cleaning and dressing changes), basic proper transfers, and safety precautions. My father has passed, but I did care for him as well. Having lung cancer and a catheter placed, I was trained in proper care to drain fluid from his lungs and care of the catheter and area where catheter was placed.
