I am a responsible and dependable caregiver. My experience around elderly and in Assisted Livings has given me understanding and compassion for residents in any type of limitation that they are experiencing. I am patient, respectful, hardworking, and passionate about caregiving. What attracted me to being a caregiver was my mother. She used to be a caregiver and would take me to work every week since I was 5 so you could say I grew up in an assisted living surrounded by elderly. As a result, I've been exposed to a variety of different elderly residents with a vast range of limitations including dementia, Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, blindness, deafness, diabetes, and residents that are independent. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is learning from the residents. Each one of them is so unique, and each one of them communicates differently, sometimes because of their disabilities or limitations, but they all have a story and a lesson to pass on to others.

Throughout my career, I have always enjoyed helping other people. I am patient and a good listener. I like to find what other people are interested in and join them in enjoying these activities. I have worked with families providing respite care for caregivers and am interested in continuing do so as I contemplate retirement. My interests and work background are broad and varied (e.g., ministry, teaching, respite care, sports coach and umpire/referee, home remodeling/ repair, reading, crossword puzzles, hiking, camping, all sports, movies). I am experienced in in-home care as well as taking my "friends" on outings of their choice. I am blessed with a loving wife, a son, and two (soon to be three) grandchildren.

I have a big heart as a caregiver and the needs for those who I care for is very important to me and the family. What I enjoy as being a caregiver is activities of daily duties. I want to make sure the care for them is more important and the importance of their personal hygiene the care for their activities for light exercises and the hours for when they have eaten or not is very important before helping them with other things such as light housekeeping.
