I was attracted to caregiving whenever my grandmother was diagnosed with dementia and began to require home health services to keep her independence. This lead me to work for about 2 years as a CNA and take CNA classes within one of the facilities I worked at. I built connections and trust with my residents by treating them with compassion, patience, and by taking time to care for them fully. I took pride in the fact that all my residents smiled at me when I walked through their door because they knew I would take good care of them. I enjoy spending time with the people I care for. I ask them questions about their life and listen to their stories as I do my tasks. This helps to break the ice and help me get to know them as a person. I have also worked with many residents with a variety of different health issues such as dementia, bed bound patients, hospice patients, and patients with various mental illnesses . I have learned how to adapt my care strategies to each individual I work with to optimize the quality care I can provide. I take special care ensure my residents feel comfortable, secure, and in control of their situations.

Due to living with my grandparents i have some experience in caregiving. I find it most enjoyable to listen to the stories they tell me about the things they experienced throughout their lives. I am proud that I'm able to learn from others experience, in helping me with making hard decisions in my life.
