Before I thought that I was a really patient person because I used to take care of my love ones,friends, neighbors,etc even when they've shown bad actitudes or behaviors or situations that you really need to understand , love , and accepts and be able to just offer them your help. But I realized that is not just patience what i need , is also compassion, and consciousness that we all need each other's as a human being. I think this is the most important part for being a great caregiver . When I discovered that ,I deside to become a caregiver ,and I love to be part of all this wonderful ladies, and gentlemen life's that I have been able to work with. I feel so blessed after so many years helping getting all the knowledges ,wisdom ,kindness,and so much love ,etc from them. Hello! I'm a 51 yr old female with 10+ years as a caregiver and Home Health Aide. Five of those years I was a personal caregiver to my parent with dementia/alzheimers. I started out as a state tested nurse aide in a nursing home with a memory care unit. My duties included bathing the residents, linen changing, feeding, denture care, personal hygiene, assistance with light exercise, etc. I then went on to become a home health aide and assisted Seniors in their own homes. This was my favorite part of caregiving and met many wonderful people. During my visits I would help them bathe, style their hair, trim nails, etc. I would also prepare healthy meals and provide companionship. I would perform light housekeeping and laundry services. I would provide transportation to doctors appointments and grocery shopping. My visits also included medication reminders, watering houseplants and feeding pets.
